The motifs, one by one

  • Inverted stair forms the principal panels, drawn with a follower, the bold line that gives the design its strength.
  • At the heart of each panel rests an almond with beads, a golden almond encircled by blue, rising from delicate veins.
  • Agate chain wraps the lid and body in a band of alternating colour, like polished stones set side by side.
  • Almonds and eyes chain, in two graceful variations, traces the borders and the curve of the spout.
  • Veined flower, flower and almond-shaped fan bloom across the piece: the forget-me-not itself, translated into Moroccan ornament.
