Golden orange, garnet red and deep teal enliven the ivory glaze, defined by fine dark outlines. Deep blue finishes the knob and the rim of the lid, and narrow bands of alternating colour emphasise the sculptural shape of the lid and the curve of the body.

The motifs, one by one

  • Triple stair with arcs and veins composes the great panels of the body, each crowned with arcs with beads.
  • Almond with beads sets a red almond within a field of teal points.
  • Chain encircles the lid in alternating bands of colour, the signature of this piece.
  • Almonds chain, rhombus and eyes chain and almonds and eyes chain trace the borders with lively rhythm.
  • Veins, rhombus fan, flower and almond-shaped fan bloom across the decoration: the treasure flower itself, rendered in Moroccan ornament.
